Steven is an expert engineer, music producer, songwriter, & music educator. His mastery of live instrumentation & composition has enabled him to create his own style of production by layering these different elements to create Pop, Hip-Hop/Trap, R&B, Rock, Indie, Electronic & Cinematic music. Expert in Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Maschine, Logic Pro X, Native Instruments, MaxMSP, and countless other software and instruments in his arsenal for crafting his unique sounds for production and composition.

Steven holds a Masters in Music Production and Sound Design for Visual Media and has been working in the music industry as a producer and engineer for the last twenty-five years. Credits include; Universal, Sony, Warner Chappell, CBS, NBC, AMC, Facebook, MySpace, Microsoft, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ecko Unlimited, The San Francisco Giants, HGTV, NPR, & Hollister Co. and Google. 


Crystal Marie

Bay Area native, Crystal Marie, is a digital artist with over a decade of experience in design & brand identity. She earned her degree in Motion Graphic Design from Ex’pression College in 2017 where she gravitated towards experimental art and post-production video editing. Crystal has primarily worked as a digital content producer and art director for a wide array of clients ranging from bands, clothing lines, and universities. 

Crystal joined Steven Vasiliou in the early stages of Oakland Recording and played a crucial role in developing and launching the business. With her extensive training in digital art software, a strong background in traditional art/design, and her love of all things creative, she approaches the creation of Oakland Recording's visual identity with a unique perspective.

Scott Miller

AVID Certified Instructor (Expert)

In 1989, Scott Miller fell in love with audio production at a radio station. He remembers the days of cutting ¼” tape with razor blades and mixing films (not videos) in real time in both directions on Mag film dubbers. He is an Avid certified Pro Tools instructor, in both Post and Music, one of 50 people worldwide with dual certification. He currently teaches at Ex’pression College in Emeryville, and he has lectured at Diablo Valley College and San Francisco State University. 


Scott’s film Sound Design and Re-recording has been screened at Cannes, Sundance, AFI Los Angeles FF, New York International, SF International (Golden Spire Winner, runner-up same year), among others.  He has TV credits on ABC, PBS, The Learning Channel, HGTV, the History Channel and others. He has done best-selling video game titles for Sony, Natsume, KOEI, Sierra

David Lawrie

David is a music producer, composer, and award winning sound design artist. He works in film, television, and contemporary popular music. His audio media company, Ishikawa Media, has attracted artists such as London After Midnight, CocoRosie, and Lucy Claire, as well as clients including GoPro, Absinthe Films, Scarlet View Media, and Progressive.


David’s own music has been featured on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 3, Channel 4, FX, and many other programs around the world.


David’s unique approach to music and sound design is reflected in his teaching style - his hands on, experiential training helps students learn concepts rather than specific processes, and develops individuality rather than perpetuating the status quo.

Chris Fletcher




Audio Engineer

Chris Fletcher has worked over twenty years in the music business, the scopes of his experiences ranging from DJ’ing, to pursuing Sound Arts at Ex’pression College in Emeryville, Ca, to professional recording. His passion in music has always been about rhythms and new sounds, and he enjoys all kinds of genres. From rock, to hip-hop, to jazz and electronic, Chris’s knowledge and expertise is well diversified. He has worked with countless professional producers on recording projects and live mixing FOH and monitors for: The Morning Benders, Mickey Hart, and K.Flay.

Chris’s credits also include Greg Landau, Carl Wheeler, TV on The Radio, and has invested hundreds of hours recording in studios with lead producers, like Narada Michael Walden (producer for artists like Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey).

Alexa Melo

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer Alexa Melo. In June of 2015, the Massachusetts-born, L.A.-raised artist independently released her self-titled debut album. A series of West Coast concert performances got industry tastemakers talking, acclaim from the blogosphere began to build, and support from major market radio programmers across the country soon followed.


In 2016, recording a series of cover songs to post on YouTube, garnering over a million YouTube plays in less than a year.

Alexa moved to San Francisco in the summer of 2017 to begin a vigorous search for inspiration, to continue rebuilding her spirit and to create a new sound of her own. In a short few months she wrote and produced her upcoming second release, the four-song "MUTE" EP. It embodies and sonically manifests the mental and physical struggles she'd dealt with while recuperating from vocal surgery. In the process of producing "MUTE" she met a key collaborator, videographer Daniel Garcia. He helped to create a visual aesthetic for the EP, directing compelling and emotionally-charged music videos for each song. 

Mary Ann Zahorsky

Mary Ann is an engineer/producer with over 25 years experience in the recording industry.  She has worked on projects ranging from Wayne Wallace’s Afro-Cuban jazz, Whitney Houston, Johnny Cash, Howard Wiley and MC Hammer, to soundtracks for independent films and TV post work on ad campaigns such as Levi’s and Taco Bell.


Within the Recording Academy leadership, Mary Ann served on the National Board of Trustees and led the San Francisco Board as Chapter President. Mary Ann taught studio recording and production, and audio post production at Expression College and at San Francisco State University, she especially enjoys working with emerging engineers and producers and the energy they bring to the evolving field of recording.

Elliot Peltzman

Music Theory

Elliott is a Composer, Producer and multi-instrumentalist based in San Francisco, CA where he has lived and worked for 10 years. As founding member of The Stone Foxes he toured around the world, co-wrote over 50 songs, and lived and breathed the studio environment. Tracks that he co-wrote and helped produce have been placed in television ads by Jack Daniels, Budweiser, BMW as well as in television shows like Sons of Anarchy, Elementary, and Storage Wars. Most recently he composed the theme music for the podcast “Drilled”. Elliott is a deep admirer of simple yet intentional songwriting with a special love for bending the rules of traditional chord theory and song structure to create foundations for beats or songs that are truly unique but sound like you’ve heard them before.

Soon after earning her degree in biology at Stanford University, Light found her true calling as a musician. She dropped out of SF State while pursuing a 2nd degree in classical violin performance in order to go on tour and record with her first band. THE  LOVEMAKERS enjoyed an international following and released four studio albums, including critically acclaimed "Times of Romance" on Interscope Records. She has lent talent to many other musician's records as well such as Blondie and Denmark's Dreampop darlings, Sleep Party People. 


Ms. Light released EL ELLE, her first solo LP in 2011, and has continued to collaboratively perform under El Elle moniker with rotating musicians and dancers. Light also performs as Material Girl, a Madonna Tribute Band, and founded Dreampop band Garlands, who released their LP in 2013. When she is not making music, she is dancing to it, or writing about it at Pandora Media as part of the music analysis team. She is currently wrapping up her second solo LP with producer Jim Greer.

Chris Hughes

Chris Hughes is an audio engineer based in the San Fransisco Bay Area. He has been involved in recording, mixing and other music studio activities for 10 years. He holds a Batchelor's of Applied Science in Sound Arts from Expression College for Digital Arts and has worked with dozens of bands from all around the globe. His passion for music is evident in all the work he does.


Chris prides himself on being there during every stage of a production project; Chris has the rare skill set to take a band from the initial pre-production stage through, recording, editing and mixing,  all the way until the project is released.


Chris is a master Pro Tools operator and specializes in producing, recording and mixing bands of all genres.

Roberto Castillo

RobCeez is a passionate artist with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. He is a multi-instrumentalist who, over the years, he has become an expert in percussive arrangements in all genres. His passion lies in mixing and layering different moods within sound. 

RobCeez holds a Fine Arts degree in 3D Animation and an extensive background in recording arts. He was the official DJ for The New World Symphony of Miami, helping to create unique shows that fussed symphonic arrangements with original music he produced. His distinctive style incorporates the use of numerous analog, semi-modular synths for sound design. 


As a producer, RobCeez has created and mixed music for clients such as Alienware, Dell Computers, numerous bands and artists and dozens of film scores. He has also played with numerous bands and performed at large venues such as the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, and opened up for world-recognized musicians such as T.I.
